Latest P.R.O. Notes 5th May 2008
• Mayfield Junior B hurling team had a resounding victory during the week against Ballinure. This result keeps their unbeaten run going. Scores in the first half from star forward Sean O’Riordan helped to put Mayfield on the right track. An early goal in the second half from centre forward Colm O’Ceallachain kept the momentum going. Overall a good team performance. Darren Wyse in goal was immense as were Richard Lee, Paul Walsh and Eoin Casey in defence. Ciaran Barry tried hard in the centre of the park. Ian Fleming hurled well, as did Simon Geaney. The final score was 1 - 13 to 0 - 09. A fine panel of players has now been organised for this league campaign. Next on the agenda are local rivals and neighbours Brian Dillon’s on Friday night next.
• U11’s had their first hurling outing against Nemo Rangers last Monday night. It was an exceptional performance from the lads in the first half but unfortunately they ran out of steam in the second half. Luke Byrne, Eddie Scannell, Oisin Henegan Ring and Cian Doherty were all outstanding on the night. Looking forward to their next outing. They also had a lovely trip to Russell Rovers and were unlucky not to come away with a share of the spoils.
• The u16 Hurlers had a great outing during the week against their old rivals Killeagh. Not since the County final of two years ago have these sides met but the result was the same .Winning at half time 1 - 6 to 0 - 04 and going out eventual winners 1 - 10 to 1 - 07.The bright young star on the night was Niall Creedon at centre back who is blossoming with every outing. On the night Nicky and Kevin Punch also competed well.
• There will be no Street Leagues on Friday 16th May due to the Celebrity Banisteoir final in Dublin.
• It has been confirmed that the final of Celebrity Banisteoir will take place on Friday May16th in Parnell Park at 7pm. Maryland Westmeath are our opponents in that final. We would ask all the community to get behind the team and show the club colours on your windows.
• U16’s Football team had a good victory over local team St. Nicks last week. Liam Horgan, Darren Crowley and the always confident Eolan Bond played well on the night.
• The minor hurlers and footballers now take a break until after the exams. Preparations have already begun for the Non-Exam Competitions.
• The Junior A Hurler’s had the ideal preparation going into championship with a good victory against Bishopstown in the league. On the night the Town didn’t seem to be tuned in for the battle. Bishopstown may be looking down the line at future championship meetings. It was a very good panel performance from Mayfield for whom Eoin Barry, Dan Lucey and Maurice Barry caught the eye. Mayfield went out eventual winners 2 – 16 to 1 - 03.

It was a disappointing result but the performance was nevertheless encouraging. There is a solid foundation there to now work off. On the night Colm O’Sullivan, Eoin Casey and Denis Sheehan and Dan Lucey played well. The final result was 1 – 11 to 1 – 10 in favour of Nemo Rangers. Mayfield now face Bishopstown in the next round.
