Latest P.R.O. Notes 7th April 2008
• Mayfield u12’s had a really hard fought victory in the u12 league versus Fermoy. This match was played prior to the Banisteoir game and was a fantastic advert for the work that’s been done at underage level in our club at the moment. Mayfield led at half time and this paved the way for there second half victory as well.
• Over 300 people attended the Murray Centra Mayfield Street league last Friday night. It was indeed one of the great nights on the pitch last Friday for the registration of the Street Leagues. In attendance were the celebrities Kiltamagh team, Gerard Kean, John Gardiner and our very own celebrity banisteoir team. Bouncy Castles and Face painting proved a huge hit and everyone registered for the start of next weeks games. Free sliothars were handed out to all those who registered on the night .There is a limited number of places still available in all age group so you can still register next Friday night at 6.30pm
Cost: €10 (1 child); €15 (2 or more children).
You must be registered to take part in Street leagues.
Games will be played on Friday Nights throughout April, May & June
• The Mayfield u11’s had there second league match last Sunday morning versus Valley Rovers. Unfortunately they were on the wrong side of the result but there attitude and commitment was fantastic. The Mayfield selectors Stephen Mangan, Des O’Sullivan, Ray O’Donovan, Liam Ring and Mick Rall must be delighted with there teams performance but must now look to there next game. Mayfield had some great heroes on the day Oisin Hennigan Ring and Joseph Mangan played very well on the day. The next outing for this team is next Friday 11th April at home to St. Vincent’s at 7 O’Clock.
• Sympathies from the club must go to the Wool family on the sudden death of there father Jim and our thoughts are with Linda, Jamie and Gemma.
• Celebrity Banisteoir came to town again last Saturday and it was a huge success for our club on and off the field. The crowd of 3,500 saw a much improved performance on the day by the Mayfield lads. Kiltamagh started well but when Mayfield settled they improved with every kick. Goals near the end flattered the result. Padraig Fitzgerald and Stephen Hackett coped well in defence and in attack Man of the Match Roy Scannell was supported well by Terry Lotty and Dan Lucey. Paul Scannell’s point from play was also joy to be seen. Focus now reverts back to our County Championship game versus St. Finbarrs next Wednesday 16th April. Unfortunately looking at recent league outings the lads need to keep there feet on the ground and improve by 50% if they are to have any chance against there championship opposition. Thanks to everyone that got behind the club over recent weeks.
• U15’s had a great workout against Ballypehane last week. Mayfield were strong throughout the game and from start to finish they bossed the game. Mayfield now have two very tuff games coming up against Blarney and Passage. On the night Eoin Doherty was supreme in defence and Eoin Downing proved a handful in attack.
