Latest P.R.O. Notes 19th February 2008

• Celebrity Banisteoir: What can be said has been said and what can be written was written. It’s all positive on the whole event. The pre-match reception was a huge success with Ciaran Cronin starting off the entertainment with music on the box followed by the Mayfield gospel choir and finished off beautifully by the Mary Mac Dancers. Silversprings Morans gave a fantastic professional approach to the event and the club are eternally grateful for Eoin Dally and his team for all there efforts. The Mayfield Brass Band was there usual professional selves and added to the glamour of the occasion. The main event was fast approaching and the excitement was at fever pitch. The match itself failed to disappoint for tension and trills. Unfortunately a few over anxious tackles resulted in a sending off of one of the Crumlin players. The Mayfield players began to get a hold of the match and the 4,000 strong crowds got behind the local team intermingled with chants of ‘Keano’.
The match itself was patchy but eventually Mayfield came out on top by five points. Trevor Daly and Stephen Hackett in defence were sublime. Dan Lucey was a leader throughout the match but upfront Terry Lotty pulled all the strings and ably assisted by the forward play of Roy Scannell and Paul Condon.

We would like to thank all the stewards that came on board for the match and everybody was committing on the grounds looking so well which was under the watchful eye of Mossy Barry for the previous week. The Intermediate team now settle back into league action on the weekend of 1st and 2nd March. Best of luck to the Manager Tony Hegarty, Coach Donal Hegarty and there selectors Noel Crowley, Denis Crowley and Eddie Hartnett.

• The Ken Murray Centra Mayfield Street leagues are continuing on Saturdays at 12.45 indoors at the Riverview Gym. Due to the good weather recently we’ll be moving outdoors soon.
Football Street Leagues for children from the Age of 5 – 11 Time 12.30

• Minor footballers had a disappointing run out in there league campaign last Saturday afternoon versus Douglas going down by the narrowest of margins. The positive of the contest was that Mayfield only played for one half but need to up the standard if they are to compete at this level. Eolan Bond played well in goal Brian Punch was leading the line while Brian O’Leary and Ian Monaher tried hard but Man of Match was Francis Quirke who’s commitment is a credit to his mentors.
