Latest P.R.O. Notes 14th April 2008
• Mayfield Under 12’s had another excellent outing last Sunday, overcoming a brave and committed Ballinora side. Mayfield now move on to the next game full of confidence with two wins in a row.
• Over 150 children attended for registration at the Murrays Centra Mayfield Street Leagues last Friday night. It was very well organised and all the children were organised into the years in which they were born. The weather was cold but that didn’t stop all the boys and girls from having a fabulous evening of games . There is a limited number of places available in all age groups so you can still register next Friday night at 6.30pm
Cost: €10 (1 child); €15 (2 or more children).
You must be registered to take part in Street leagues.
Games will be played on Friday Nights throughout April, May & June.
• Our condolences are extended to the O’Sullivan family on the unexpected death of Darren. Darren had played at all levels with our club and only this year moved on to the junior side. Every time he played he was totally committed to the cause and only last week he was supporting the club at the Celebrity Banisteoir match. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
• We still have no confirmed date for the Celebrity Banisteoir Final. The other semi-final between St. Mary’s, Faughanvale of Derry and Maryland of Westmeath will be played next weekend.
• Our Under 15’s had a very tough encounter with Passage last week in the hurling league .Once again they came out the good side of this battle. The victory continues the lads’ unbeaten run and they now face their last match against Blarney in the coming few days. On the night the victory came from good teamwork, but lots of work still remains to be done. If it were not for the play of forwards in form like James Byrne and Conor O’Callaghan the result may well have been different.
• The pitches are in great order at the moment and that is down to the very hard work of Jim Doherty. The club and players are eternally grateful for all the hard work that’s been done over the last few weeks.
• The minors had their first outing against a very strong Courcey Rovers team last Saturday evening. A big attendance saw an excellent standard of hurling being played for the first game of the season. Early goals steadied Mayfield and they needed every bit of the lead at half time as Courcey’s came fighting back with the wind. Mayfield eventually won on a scoreline of 4 - 9 to 3 - 6. A good start to the league and there seems to be plenty of positions up for grabs. On the night Brian Punch and Eamonn O’Brien were to the fore.
• Best of Luck to the Junior Footballers who are out in the Championship next Monday Night at 7 p.m. Douglas are a formidable side and gave Mayfield a lesson in football at the start of the season.
• The Under 11 team have their first away fixture next weekend against St.Finbarrs at 12.00 noon. Hopefully the lads can build on their recent improvement.
• Congratulations to John and Christine Kearney on the birth of there baby daughter Faye during the week.
