Latest P.R.O. Notes 10th March 2008

• An improved performance by the Junior Footballer this weekend but they were up against very good opposition in the form of Whites Cross. Whites Cross had one forward in particular that ruined any chance of Mayfield competing in this game. In conditions that were suited to Christmas Whites Cross started well but the Mayfield side weathered the storm. A good start by Mayfield’s centre back Niall O’Donnell and good display by midfielder Shane Fitzgerald made sure that Mayfield were always in touch up to half time .For the second week in a row the inability to take scores when they arose and the tendency to concede easy goals was Mayfield’s downfall. Richard Quaine couldn’t be faulted for any of the goals. Shane Kelly played well in defence and Ian Looney was always a threat in the forwards.

• Victory was snatched from the minors last weekend when a last gasp goal was scored by Kinsale to get a share of the spoils. Mayfield went into the game with a full panel to pick from and finally all the hard work seems to be paying off for the players. Mayfield led the game from early on and held it right to the death but they live to fight another day. Man of Match by miles was Nicky Kelly with a personal tally of 1.4.The game finished 2 - 10 a piece which proved that it was a great game of football. For Mayfield Danny O’Gorman and Shane Creedon were outstanding throughout the game and Stephen Crowley ably assisted them throughout the game.

• Best of luck to all the Mayfield players playing for Seandun in the u16 Munster Championship versus Limerick City in St.Patrick’s, Limerick next Saturday at 12 noon. Winners play East Clare the following week. Jeanette Lyons David Malone, Nicky Kelly and William Holland are representing Mayfield.

• The Intermediate Footballers were again finding it hard to cope against near neighbours St. Nicks in the Kelleher Shield. Unfortunately no referee turned up for the game and up stepped A.J. Cronin and rolled back the years with a fantastic display of refereeing. It looked as if the bug has bitten him again and we’re looking forward to his next match. A much improved work ethic was shown by all players involved. In defence Mayfield were always competitive and as individuals they each player won their own battle. Padraig Fitzgerald and Ciaran Brosnan particularly impressed. Barry Hegarty distributed ball well to the forwards .In the forward line Roy Scannell was supreme and was supported well by the hard working Brian Condon. There seems to be light at the end of the tunnel following this display. Next up is Glenville.

• Lotto Numbers 5, 10, 20
Congratulations to winner Jeanette Lyons who scooped the top Prize of 5,600 Eur. Next weeks prize money 800 Eur.

• The next round of Celebrity Bainisteoir has been fixed for April 5th with a venue to be decided against the Mayo representatives Kiltimagh.

• Junior Hurling League 1 starts next Sunday morning with a home match against Glen Rovers at 11.30 a.m. Best of luck to everyone concerned especially to Team Manager Derry Crowley, Coach Aidan Flanagan and selectors Martin Cronin and Eoin O’Mahony.
