18/10/2011 On Saturday 15th October 2011, Mayfield Gaelic 4 Moms went on their maiden voyage to the National Blitz in Naomh Mearnog Gaa Portmarnock Dublin. With the flasks filled, the sandwiches and scones packed, we headed off early saturday morning. Stopping off in the "Mayfield Junction" both cars and bodies were refuelled. We struck off for Naomh Mearnog GAA grounds. Excitement and nerves began to mount as we approached our destination.
Following a safe arrival, we parked up and got ourselves ready for our very first game versus Tyrone. After an "intense" warmup, we took to the field. Mayfield team played with great effort and enthusiasm, competing in and winning our very first G4M's game. The cheers and applause rang out around Naomh Mearnog and the team were overjoyed. One game down and nerves gone, our next game was against Kilkenny. While we played very well, we came up against a more experienced side. We had time then to recharge the batteries before the next game versus Offaly. This was a very evenly matched game and Mayfield despite a narrow loss enjoyed the game immensely. Finally, we faced a Roscommon side, again a very evenly matched game and the Mayfield Ladies pulled off another fine win to finish off the blitz.
The jerseys and shorts were exchanged for heels and hoops, the straighteners came out and the lipstick applied and off to the "Afters" where the crack was electric. A few "Scoops" to celebratre and a promise to return with supporters onboard, we headed off on our journey south, laughing and recalling the events of the day. Our maiden voyage will live long in our memories and we are already looking forward to Blitz 2012. Anyone wishing to join Mayfield G4M's contact Marian 087-2660592.

30/03/2011 Our U12 Team played a challenge match against Erins Own at home in Mayfield on Sunday 27th March. Both teams played a very entertaining game with the two sides very evenly matched. Erins Own were leading at half time, but in the second half the Mayfield girls showed great determination and gave a skilled performance to even out the match. The Mayfield girls kept the pressure on until the end of the game but were unlucky to be narrowly beaten. Well done to all the girls who took part and we all look forward to the start of the league. Training is continuing on Wednesdays at 6pm and Sundays at 11.30am, new players are always welcome.
On Sunday 27th March our U14 ladies travelled to Lisgoold for a 1o'clock throw in. The girls were in the perfect frame of mind with fantastic weather on their side. The throw in saw Lisgoold take the advantage but our full back line was not to be infiltrated. Mayfield took back possession and started off our scoring with a fantastic point. With precision teamwork between our backs, midfield and forwards our score line continued to rise. Lisgoold did not make it easy at any stage keeping it close with a score line at half time of 1-3 to 2-7. Mayfield's hard work continued again in the second half with the girls determination and teamwork paying off giving them a great lead. Credit at this point has to be given to both goalkeepers who saved numerous scores on the day. This match was played on a Croke Park sized pitch and the display of ball by all on the day was equal to that seen at Croke Park. Final score was Mayfield 2-14 Lisgould 1-5 Outdoor training for U14/16 is on Wednesday 6.15 to 7.30 and Sunday 12.30 to 1.45. New players of any level are always welcome.
Our Junior Ladies have had an excellent start to the season in their 13-a-side county league. Sunday 20th March saw them at home to St. Peters in what was a well matched game with Mayfield securing their win with a score line of Mayfield 4-2 to St.Peters 0-6. Sunday 27th of March again saw these ladies travelling to Youghal to play this newly established club. It was a fast, hard, physical game with both sides showing true determination until the final whistle. Again this side showed the best of their skill with a lot of players playing out of their usual positions. This did not deter our ladies giving them a winning score line of Mayfield 3-7 to Youghal 0-3. This team has once again made it into our club history book by having the first mother-daughter-aunt combination with the mother saving the goals and the daughter and aunt scoring them.
Congratulations to all involved. A special thank you has to go to Aimee Teegan(2-1), Laura Lotty, Shauna kiely and Shauna Cronin who stepped up to the panel for the day.
01/03/2011 U12:Our U12 girls went on their first football outing of the season to a Blitz hosted by Glanmire at the Pike field on Saturday 26th February. Each team had three games. In our first game we met a very strong Glanmire side but Mayfield girls showed great determination and limited Glanmires scores in the second half. Our next game was against Midelton and this game saw two evenly matched teams. Mayfield girls started to regain their momentum displayed great football to overcome a very good Midleton side. Our final game saw us up against Inch Rovers. This was also well contested; again both sides playing very good football and Mayfield were unlucky not to have pulled off a few extra scores to win out the match Overall the girls enjoyed themselves and it was great to see them kick-off the season by their large attendance and great display of football.
U14:Our U14 Team travelled to Killeagh on Saturday 26th February to play their first East Cork league match of the season against Inch. The weather was very inclement as we had wind, rain and hailstone as we left Mayfield. By the time the match started, we had blue skies and intermittent rays of sunshine. Mayfield started strong with the wind to their backs and a fast goal not long into play. With fantastic displays of ball work and passing, this team continued to dominate the first half giving a score line of Mayfield 3-4 to Inch Rovers 0-1 at half time. With the wind against them in the second half our girls knew they couldn't drop their guard and had to continue working as a team. Killeagh came back at us with a wonderful goal but Mayfield kept the pressure on at all times giving a final winning score of Mayfield 6-6 to Inch Rovers 1-1. Congratulations to the panel on the day as this is a fantastic start to the season. Best on the day were all the team; Scorers on the day were Shauna Cronin, Emma Coffey, Lauren Barry & Chloe O'Brien
25/02/2011 U14: We returned to training in mid January with renewed vigour after our break. We started with indoor circuit training, which is still continuing on Wednesday night from 6pm to 7pm and added outdoor training two weeks later on Sunday lunchtime from 12.30pm to 1.30pm giving the girls a chance to work on their fitness as well as their ball skills. We had our first challenge match on Sunday 13th February against Bishopstown with a very depleted team due to other commitments, but the girls enjoyed this first challenge and came out victors on the day inspite of a very determined Bishopstown team. We'd like to thank the Bishopstown team and mentors for their hospitality and challenge. We are looking forward to our first league match which we will be playing away to Inch Rovers on Saturday 26th February at 3pm. Good luck girls, all support welcome.
U16: We were delighted this year to have been able to establish an u16 panel, with girls of varying levels of skill, from those that have established skills to those that have never played a game of ball in their lives. We have been training since the end of last season with the girls putting in a lot of dedication to training, which has paid off. In our first league match of season, On Sunday last 20th February we played Rockban at home in unfavourable conditions with heavy rain and strong winds in the first half. Mayfield were off to a good start even though we were playing against the wind with a point not long into the game. This was followed by a further two goals. Rockban didn't make it easy at any stage keeping us on our toes with a score line of 1 goal 3 points. The conditions improved for the second half with the wind dying down and the rain easing. Our girls continued to keep the pressure on hoping to hold on to our one point lead but Rockban put that to bed with a fantastic goal with ten minutes to play. Mayfield never lost faith and continued to play for that score which would lead to the win they were hungry for and which they didn't fail to deliver on. A point, followed in quick succession by a goal and a further point giving a final scoreline of Mayfield 3-5 to Rockbán 3-3. Scorers on the day were Lauren Barry, Robyn Cummins, Chloe Lynch, Aimee Teegan, Chloe O'Brien and Laura Lotty. Each team member gave of their all on the day and it really was a great team effort. A quick thank you to those u14's who stepped in at the last minute on Sunday. This was an impressive match given by two very young sides of which both clubs should be very proud. Our next match is away to Watergrasshill.
